Sept. 3, 2012

Mis Padres,

So, first and foremost, we had a baptism on Saturday! Our little 10 year-old Laotian got baptized. It was awesome. Pretty much everything that we planned for the baptism fell through; people showing up, talks, and that sort of thing. But at the end of the day there was water, T was dressed in white, and he was baptized by priesthood authority. That day was nuts... we helped someone move who was getting evicted on 5 minutes notice. I couldn't change from my nice suit, so someone gave my a t-shirt and I just put that on and helped the people move while I was wearing my nice suit pants. I hate moving people out of 2nd story apartments, ESPECIALLY when NOTHING is organized or boxed... it was a "grab it and pack it" deal. Then, one of the ward members fed us that night. We had "Prison Spread!" This member had been in prison for a while, and now he is endowed and sealed in the temple (prior to going into prison he was excommunicated). He is such a solid guy! So, what Prison Spread is, is ramen noodles, some kind of canned meat called chile colorado, ritz crackers (to soak up the juice), and a ton of melted cheese. And, the fun part is, is that it's all mixed together and cooked inside trash bags! How fun is that? It was super tasty. He used to make it when he was in prison, hence the name.

We saw a drunk Mexican pee on a side walk this week, that was funny.

On Monday, we had our Laotian Family Home Evening. It was fun! Lao food is delicious. They gave me a new Lao name: Elder Chai Son. It means something like "teaching heart." But that was a good and fun time. Lao people are so nice! I love them!

We had our Zone Leader Council on Friday. I love that meeting... But it just isn't the same without President Bunker. Yeah, I uphold and sustain President Alba, but he's just not "my" mission president, ya know? Just a random thought I guess.

I'm not sure what else I need to write... I'm 95% positive that I'm staying and I'm not moving. The sooner I can get that electrical razor, that happier I'll be. I'm so tired of my razor! Haha! Can you believe that I have to shave every day now? People notice if I don't! I feel like a man now. Just send it to the address that I gave you.

Good to hear about OSU and BYU... Please keep me up to date on them. Can you believe that I will be home before the season is over? Crazy! I am excited to see how Braxton Miller does, what happened to that one freshman when I was at BYU that was doing okay and took over for Riley Nelson?

As for NFL I'd like to hear about Indy and Cleveland and I guess a few updates from Peyton and how he is doing. Other than that, I don't care all that much.

As for picking me up, I would prefer that. Because one, I will have fresh in my mind where everyone is and how to get around. I guess there are are benefits to both. I think it would be very good for both of you, and maybe Colin or Tanner if they can come. So, my release date is January 14, I saw my name on the departing missionary list in the office, it goes up to 4 or 5 months. That was weird.

I love you both very much! Sorry that this was a short letter. Thank you so much for your encouragement and support!

Love,
Elder Edwards
